Prompton State Park is located in Wayne County, Pennsylvania situated in Dyberry and Clinton Townships. It is named for the nearby community of Prompton.
The park is beautiful in every season and especially in the spring and summer.
The 26 miles of bike trails in the park are mostly for intermediate to experienced bike riders. There are many rocks and very few smooth sections, which makes navigation tricky. The trails are well marked and maintained. Most are fairly level and not too steep. But there are numerous trails in the park and all of them offer something different for the rider.
There are campgrounds all over this area and plenty of more modern lodging as well. Campsites do not offer water hook ups but electricity is available at most sites. Fire pits and picnic tables are also to be found. All tent sites are heavily wooded and quite.
Wildlife is bountiful so bring your camera and binoculars. The premier sporting activity in this park is its fishing on Prompton Lake. The lake is 290 acres and is considered a warm water fishery. The lake is operated by the army corps of engineers. You will hook crappie, yellow perch and largemouth bass, among many other species.
The winter activities at Prompton State Park are also endless. Cross country skiing, snowmobiling, ice fishing are just a few to be mentioned.
Most of the park is open to hunting and trapping during season. Common animals to be found are deer and turkey.
Since this park is mostly undeveloped and very un-crowded, even during peak seasons, there is a certain peace and tranquility associated with it. Hikers, campers and bikers will find it remote and full of solitude. This is a great place to get away from everything and get back to nature.
