The Pocono Plateau is 1,800 feet above sea level in the Pocono Mountains. And on that Plateau, surrounded by 8,000 acres of forest land is the 3,000 acres Promised Land State Park. 422 acres of the park are Promised Land Lake.
Just on the border of the Promised Land State Park is the Bruce Lake natural Area, where some of the best fishing and hiking in the Poconos can be found.
There are numerous trails in Promised Land State Park and even a self guided tour of Conservation Island which lies in the middle of Promised Land Lake. There are over 20 miles of mountain biking trails here, too, extending all the way into the Delaware Forest. Bike trails are rated from easy to difficult. Trails are all marked at every intersection and trailhead making navigation easy, but you can ride on the horse and snowmobile trails also. These are more rugged and less marked for bikers. Trails include moderate climbs and fast down hills, as well as more gentle and easy rides for the less experienced. Some trails are quite technical. Make sure you get a trail map ahead of time and plan your adventure according to your skills and available time.
There are four campgrounds in the park, Lower Lake, The Pines, Deerfield and Pickering Point. All have amenities.
If you are not planning to camp in the park, room accommodations can be found everywhere around the park and in the nearby Town of Jim Thorpe. You will find quaint bed and breakfasts, charming inns and manors and hotels that are reasonably priced.
You will also find delicious food in Jim Thorpe and all through the Poconos when you plan your vacation to visit the Pennsylvania state parks.
