One of the best ways to see the Poconos is to take it in on two wheels. Come bike through the Lehigh River Gorge, one of the best downhill biking daytrips. It is voted one of the best 50 rides in America by Outside Magazine. This is a 3 to 5 hour trip where you will ride along an abandoned railroad bed at a slight downhill grade. There are stunning sights along the way such as unusual rock formations and refreshing waterfalls. There will be plenty of wildlife to see and places to stop and explore along the way. Check out the Penn Haven Planes which are early Lehigh Valley Rail Road ruins.
Bicycles can be rented until 5 PM or you can bring your own. Full shuttle services are available and information will be provided so you will know where the best places are to stop and sightsee, take a break or get the best photographs
If you do not have the time or stamina to traverse the whole Lehigh River Gorge trail, you can start at the midway point. This still offers the gentle downhill ride and you can make it back in half the time. A shuttle is available to get you back to your car when you have finished your ride.
On certain days throughout the year, (Check the Website), you can join in on the ‘Big Day Out’ adventure. This is a day when you can bike, hike and raft all in the same day for one low price. Three meals are included.
You can also enjoy the ‘Bike, Wine and Dine event held on certain days throughout the summer. Start with a leisurely bike ride taking in many historic places in the Poconos. Then, after lunch at Molly Maguire’s Pub and Steakhouse, explore the beautiful and historic Jim Thorpe with friends and family by taking tours, train rides and galleries and wine tasting.
