Lehigh Gorge State Park encompasses the forest and river from the Town of Jim Thorpe in the south to Francis E. Walter Dam in the north. The State Park is named for the Gorge that was carved over millions of years by the Lehigh River. It is home to steep canyons and unique vegetation and has several spectacular waterfalls.
This is a perfect place for Whitewater rafting and cycling.
The bike trails in Lehigh Gorge State Park are fine aggregate for smooth travel and leisurely rides. These bike trails are mostly flat and a perfect for the novice bike riders. Mountain biking trails are natural surface with steep climbs and descents. There are also obstacles to make them more challenging.
Lehigh Gorge State Park offers shuttle service for drop off and pick up and you can rent your bikes and equipment. There are bathroom services and many trailheads where you can start and stop. Pennsylvania law requires riders under the age of 12 to wear an ANSI, SNELL, ASTM or CPSC approved helmet while riding.
There are full service campgrounds and amenities available inside the park and plenty of lodging available around Lehigh Gorge State Park including some very fine bed and breakfasts and inns in the town of Jim Thorpe and throughout the Poconos.
Besides taking in the beautiful and unique scenery in Lehigh Gorge State Park from two wheels you can spend your day on the Lehigh River fishing, swimming and canoeing or kayaking. The cliff walls also offer some spectacular rock climbing opportunities for the experienced climber.
