Delaware Water Gap

Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area has everything an outdoor enthusiast could possibly want to do on their weekend getaway or their week long family vacation. Excellent hiking and camping over 70,000 acres are easy to come by.  And for those with the desire to canoe or kayak the cool smooth or rapid rivers this place cannot be beat. But for the cyclist no place is better for those wanting to take in the unparalleled scenery and the plentiful wildlife.

Canopied forests and open fields await the biker that decides to tackle the 32 mile long Mcdade Trail. The trail runs along and crosses the Delaware River and runs along cliff edges for spectacular views of the Delaware River below. You can stop at the Hialeah Picnic area for a meal before continuing on. Since the trail runs along the river there are numerous access points with beaches for cooling off or just letting the water run over your feet. You can also make camp for the night at the Valley View Camp Sites. There is a fee for camping.

No Motorized vehicles are allowed on the path and the path varies from rugged to wide gravel. There are trailhead access points every half mile to five miles. This is a trail for many differing levels of cycling experience. There is no fee to use the trail but some access points have parking fees. If you stop and use the beaches along the trail there is a one dollar per person access fee.
Some of the Mcdade trail between Pittman Orchard and White Pines Trailhead is closed to all activities expect hiking during certain parts of the year for resource protection. Call ahead for more information and planning to get the most out of your Mcdade Trail biking experience.
